Sixth-seeded American Andy Roddick defeated Nicolas Mahut of France 6-1, 6-7, 6-3 in three sets to make it to the second round of the Rogers Cup in Toronto. Germany's Tommy Haas registered a straight sets 6-3, 6-2 win over Spain's Carlos Moya and will face Nikolay Davydenko in the second round. Frenchman Gilles Simon also booked his place in 2nd round after he defeated American Donald Young 6-1, 6-3 in less than an hour. Jesse Levine of the U.S.A. also advanced after beating Canadian wild card Peter Polansky 6-2, 6-4 in straight sets.

ANOTHER FEDERER DEFEAT
Roger Federer was shown the door by Frenchman Giles Simon in the second round of the Rogers Cup in Toronto. Federer, a 2-time winner of the event, won the first set 6-2, but Simon stormed back to take the next two sets to complete a shock 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 win. Wimbledon champion Rafael Nadal advanced with a straight sets 6-4, 6-2 win over American Jesse Levine. There were two more upsets as 12th seed Tommy Robredo and 16th seed Tomas Berdych were ousted by Marin Cilic and Igor Andreev respectively.
